Layla

Layla is our boston terrier mix. We know that she also has jack russel and chiuaua in her, but boston is the most pronounce. She has a slight underbite, ears full of personality and a playful spunk. She's dark brown and white with carmel undertones in her fur. She weighs about 18 pounds.

We first met Layla in July 2009. She had been dropped off at the shelter by her previous owner but they hadn't even told the shelter her name. She was rescued on her last day and brought to meet us. She was skin and bones, shaking and walked on only 3 of her 4 legs. We didn't even know if she was house broken, but we took one look at her and couldn't turn her away. On the way home that first day, we came up with the name Layla. She instantaneously attached herself to us and felt asleep on my lap the minute we got home.

A few days later we took her to the vet to get her back right leg checked out. They took x-rays but couldn't determine what the exact problem was. We were referred to a specialist who told us that Layla's leg had been broken when she was little and never given medical attention. It was causing her pain which was why she didn't use it to walk. We decided to go ahead with the surgery. After the surgery we found out that Layla's miniscus was destroyed and her the ligament in her knee was torn. Dr. Zern was able to repair all the damage and put three pins in Layla's knee. It took a few months for her to fully recover but she has made incredible progress. She walks and runs on all 4 legs and has become quite active! When she's standing still, her back right leg doesn't touch the ground because of the previous injury but she doesn't let that slow her down.

We love learning about Layla's personality and she provides us with much entertainment around the house. She loves treats and will do tricks to get them. Right now she only knows "sit" and "stay" but John's working on some others. She loves being underneath blankets when she's sleeping. She loves laying in the sun as it streams through the windows during the afternoon. She has learned to spell some of her favorite words, which has resulted in John and I speaking code around her. She absolutely loves riding in the car and trys to get in the car everytime we walk outside. She loves chasing squirrels and birds that close to the ground. She will bark at dogs she doesn't know, but loves to play once they become familiar.

And she LOVES pillows....

And cuddling with Mr. Snuggles and her boyfriend, Nigel (our friend's terrier)....

We are so blessed to have Layla in our lives!
