More Layla

I can't help it....she's just too cute!

Isn't she adorable?

Layla came home with us last night. She was rescued from a Shelter and didn't have a home to go to. We are "foster" parents right now, giving her a home, food and love. :) We didn't know anything about her when we picked her up but she immediately found her favorite spot...on my lap. She's housebroken, curious and loves to be right by our side at all times. Layla is mostly Boston Terrier but she has a little bit of something else in her as well. She only weighs about 12 lbs (that's our best guess) and is probably about 1 1/2 years old. We think she will max out at about 18 lbs. She's just precious and we're glad to be her "foster" parents.

Vanity Reorganization

We have this huge vanity area between the master bedroom and our fabulous walk-in closet. We painted it a fabulous nuetral grey - Behr Creek Bend (same as the rest of the room), but really hadn't done anything else to it. I spent last weekend cleaning and reorganizing, since it was starting to become a place that our junk and dirty clothes landed. Now I actually have a place to get ready in the morning that's not in the steam-filled bathroom!

To let you in on a little secret...I've enlisted another wonderful designer to help me tackle our master bedroom (including this vanity). More before-and-after pictures to follow in the coming months! I'm so excited! :)

Kitchen Update

Just an added touch in the kitchen. I got this wonderful, hand drawn picture when I was in Zimbabwe in 2003. I think it looks lovely! These black cabinets were inspired by Layla and her blog, The Lettered Cottage. We're also in the process of adding these pulls to the cabinet doors. Love it!

Entryway Update

I'm so excited about how our entryway is turning out. I enlisted the help of my friend, Hillary, who had some wonderful ideas. She drew up a sketch of the space and sent me a bunch of links to different items. (She is starting her own design company and can't wait for her to launch her website!)

We went with the Expedit sofa table from IKEA, this lamp, this shade and this mirror from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, candles from IKEA and the books I already had. John and I have been thinking about a wall treatment because this particular wall has 10 - 12 ft. ceilings and really needs to make a statement (since it's the first wall you see when you walk through the front door.) We just visited a friend's house yesterday and they used Ralph Lauren suede finish on an accent wall and it turned out fantastic! We may just have to follow in their footsteps. :)

Our fireplace desperately needed art above it. While it's no where near complete, it's a start.

Updated Guest Bedroom

After much anticipation (at least for me), here are pictures of our updated guest bedroom. We sanded and painted all the furniture with Behr Swiss Coffee and I love the white against the green walls. I'm not crazy about the bedspread so I think I'm going to swap out the duvet cover for a black one and I think it will look even more fabulous. And the reflection above the bed is from the mirror...hehehe.

John insisted that we hang something on this blank wall. I couldn't leave the hooks bare so I found a few necklaces to hang on them. I'm still not sure about it, and think I may hang some scarves or purses instead.

I'm really excited about this corner because that is where our new desk is going to live. We bought a desk from our friend who's moving out of state and it is going to look perfect in this room (after John fixes one of the legs and we paint it white to match). I was so excited about it, though, that I hung my bulletin board anyway. And when we bring in the desk, we can finally get rid of that lamp.

Stay Tuned

There is a lot going on in our fabulous home this weekend, so stay tuned for photos. Living room, entryway, and guest bedroom updates. We're getting our hands dirty!

Condo Update

It's been a while since I've posted any pictures of the condo...actually it's been a while since I've posted pictures of anything, but that's another story. We put in a new light over the dining room table and I think it looks great! We also put in dark brown bamboo blinds on the window in the dining room. Now we have those blinds on all 4 windows on that wall and I'm so glad they all match.

We also got a new couch! Chocolate brown with a chaise lounge! I absolutely love it. It's exactly what I've wanted and we were finally able to get it. :) So exciting.

So what's next for the Condo...a red rug for the living room, canvas paintings over the couch, mirror on the wall behind the dining table, basket underneath the side table....hopefully more updates soon.
